Children and Family Support Units
The primary prevention programmes of the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) are geared toward realising a reduction in the number of children entering the child care and protection system.
To this end, the Agency established Children and Family Support Units (CFSU) in its regional offices to direct interventions for children whose circumstances do not necessitate the involvement of the Courts. The services may involve providing counselling or connecting families to where they can access economic assistance and other services. These services help to ease the strain on families and enable them to better support their children and therefore prevent them from coming into the care of the State.
Community Outreach
The CPFSA also engages in community outreach and public education to raise awareness about child rights, child abuse and parenting, all within the context of the Child Care and Protection Act.
