The Reggae Boyz have once again extended a helping hand to the Glenhope Nursery, this time with a donation of US$2000.00 from their match fee earned in the Jamaica vs. Costa Rica match played recently in that country.
The presentation was made by Reggae Boyz Team Manager Roy Simpson to CEO of the Child Development Agency, Carla Francis-Edie at the CDA Office on Duke Street. Also at the presentation were CDA’s Director of Children and Family Programmes Audrey Budhi and Jamaica Football Federation Marketing Assistant Tanya Grant.
With the latest donation, the Reggae Boyz have so far contributed US$4300 to the Glenhope Nursery. The first donation of US$2300 was made last year.
In making the presentation, Mr. Simpson noted that the players welcomed the opportunity to give back, adding that it was not so much about the football, but about the good that the players can use football to accomplish.
“It is about sharing, and knowing that because we have been given this tremendous privilege to earn, we should therefore give back to those in our society who are in need,” Mr. Simpson said.
He said that the team members will continue to make donations to the Glenhope Nursery throughout the course of the current World Cup campaign.
In accepting the gift, Mrs. Edie thanked the Reggae Boyz for taking the time out of their hectic schedules to consider the needs of the children.
“This gift that you have given will help to supplement the resources that we have allocated for the care of the children; it also means that we can now divert funds to other areas of need,” the CEO said.
