The Occasion was a ceremony held at the Child Development Agency (CDA) in which the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation made donation of personal hygiene products and medical supplies to eight CDA-operated children’s homes.

As part of its continued support for the development of Jamaica’s children, the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation has generously donated hygiene products and medical supplies to eight Government residential child care facilities.

The products, which were contributed with the kind assistance of CARIMED, included personal grooming and oral hygiene products, among others. They were handed over to CDA’s CEO Carla Francis-Edie at the Agency at Duke Street by Spanish Ambassador Her Excellency Celsa Nuño yesterday May 1.

In handing over the items, the Spanish Ambassador said that the donations were in keeping with the Foundation’s commitment to the development of children in Jamaica.
Noting that it was fitting for the Foundation to make the presentation on the first day of child month, Ambassador Nuño said, the Foundation was intensely focused on issues such as children’s health, education, and welfare.

In addition to the donation, she observed that the Foundation has been working with wards of the State and have now expanded its training workshops for staff who work with children in the homes.

The training, the Ambassador explained, is based on the Darkness to Light Series used widely in the United States to safeguard and help children recover from abuse.
In thanking the Foundation, CDA’s CEO Carla Francis-Edie said that the Agency considered the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation as a valuable partner in the effort to improve the quality of life of Jamaica’s children in State care, by building the Agency’s capacity to support the restoration of the children.

“We especially express gratitude for the training workshops facilitated by the Foundation which have served to build our capacity by educating our staff on how to deal with children affected by sexual abuse and other traumas,” Mrs. Edie said.

She also thanked CARIMED for its role in the donation, expressing the hope for continued partnership.

Following the presentation ceremony, the Ambassador, accompanied by Mrs. Edie, toured the Spanish-Jamaican Foundation-sponsored Darkness to Light Workshop taking place on the same building. Some 25 CDA staff members from residential child care facilities are participating in the workshop.
